Applications are sought for the post of Child Exploitation Coordinator and Decision Maker based at either County Hall, Trowbridge or Clarence House, Swindon. The Gemstone team is co-located with Children’s Social Care teams, and therefore the location for this post can be at either place.
This is a key role within the Wiltshire Police Gemstone team, dealing with child sexual exploitation (CSE) with expansion into wider child criminal exploitation (CCE), working closely with our partners in Children’s Social Care to identify, research, respond to and coordinate CSE/CCE information and intelligence within the police and with partner agencies.
Main responsibilities: • Monitoring/research of police systems to identify CSE/CCE trends and associated reported criminality to ensure that we have a proper understanding of the issues, and to identify repeat victims and trends between suspects, locations and other victims. • Work closely with partners in Social Care, Health and other agencies to help safeguard children identified as being at risk of, or suffering from, CSE/CCE. You will be required to attend partnership meetings and strategy discussions, representing the police to identify the risks surrounding individuals involved in CSE/CCE activity and provide safeguarding advice. The development of robust trigger plans for identified children will be your responsibility as well as sharing data regarding CSE/CCE with suitable agencies to build a picture which will inform intervention and prevention strategies. • Offer advice to care providers, foster carers, and parents in respect of CSE/CCE and signpost to relevant support agencies. • Foster relationships with Care homes and Foster Carers regarding activity which is suspected to be CSE/CCE to identify patterns. • Ensure there are strong links with the Missing Person Coordinators, the Human Exploitation and Emerging Threats (HEET) team and Community Policing Teams (CPT) to promote a proactive approach to identifying victims, suspects and locations of CSE/CCE. • Provide information, identifying ‘hot spots’ and the volume and nature of CSE/CCE incidents in order to prioritise intervention work with the aim of reducing CSE/CCE. • Act as a central point of contact for Wiltshire Police and partners. • Provide advice and assistance to supervisors and staff who may be involved in identifying or conducting CSE/CCE enquiries and provide guidance on Force protocols, policies and procedures. • Offer advice and coordinate activity on disruption methods and techniques (e.g. Section 2 and Section 49 Children’s Act 1989 Child Abduction Warning Notices, Sexual Risk Orders etc.) to assist in evidence collation and coordination of disruption tactics to Safeguard children at risk of or suffering from CSE/CCE.
