Do you have experience in media relations and managing reputational risk? Are you passionate about news and current affairs?
If so, you might be the ideal candidate for the Senior Media and External Communications Officer role in our Corporate Communications and Engagement Team, working for both the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon (OPCC) and Wiltshire Police.
Over the last two years, Wiltshire Police has not been far from the national and international media spotlight and we need someone with experience in media relations to help keep us on the news agenda.
Reporting to the Head of Media Services, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of the media office and be responsible for the supervision of a small team of media officers.
You will need to be able to thrive in a fast-paced and pressurised environment whilst juggling a number of priorities – as well as delivering reactive communications for ongoing incidents, breaking news and media enquiries. You will also need to be on top of the planned communications activity for upcoming, high profile criminal cases, police operations and campaigns.
Your understanding of media law will make you a valued contact for stakeholders across both organisations.
You will be expected to identify opportunities, locally and nationally, to generate positive publicity for the OPCC and Force via the media and other external channels.
You will also have the responsibility to plan and maintain the on-call media rota for the Force and OPCC ensuring on-call coverage 24 hours a day for 365 days of the year, whilst regularly participating in the rota yourself.
You’ll need to have a full driving license and to satisfy the eligibility and vetting requirements. Interviews will be held at Wiltshire Police/OPCC Headquarters, London Road, Devizes on 19 February 2020.
Wiltshire Police recognise the importance of our employees’ health, wellbeing and work life balance. Where possible we endeavour to accommodate the needs of our staff and welcome applications for those wanting a more flexible approach to working patterns
