This is a rare opportunity for a talented and experienced communications professional to join Wiltshire Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Corporate Communications and Engagement team.
In the last 12 months, Wiltshire Police has had a number of high profile investigations which has led the international news agenda – we need a skilled communications expert who can keep up this pace and deliver first class communications. As Communications Supervisor, you will manage a team of communications officers to deliver internal and external campaigns and change communications across the Force area, in line with the Force Mission and the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan. You will report into the Head of Communications and Engagement and sit on the departmental leadership team.
The ideal candidate will be creative and resourceful, with excellent communication skills and strong leadership experience. You’ll have a good understanding of current affairs and issues affecting policing and a proven track record in a related communications field, such as marketing, public relations and/or internal communications. The post holder will oversee the day-to-day running of the team, ensuring all activity is delivered on time and to the highest quality. Your supervisory experience and excellent customer service skills will be supported by strong risk and reputation management, planning, problem-solving and decision making. You’ll be responsible for managing the delivery of a yearly campaign plan and coordinating and planning monthly public relations and communications activity. We need you to also manage your own portfolio of work requiring excellent organisational skills in order to manage multiple projects. An ability to manage your time effectively, motivate yourself and others and communicate clearly at all levels of the organisation, as well as with external suppliers/stakeholders, is therefore a vital part of the role.
You’ll be a great people person too. Your team of multi-skilled communications officers deal with a wide range of requests, often under pressure so you’ll need to inspire and motivate them through training, mentoring, leadership – and by example. You’ll also have a full driving license and need to satisfy the Force’s eligibility and vetting requirements.
